I'm Lerato Mphaka. I've spent 15 years inside Southern African corporate — leading strategy, client experience, and digital transformation across financial services, telecoms, and insurance — and I now work as an independent mentor, facilitator, and Director at The Black Heron Group.
Areas of expertise
Strategy and digital transformation. I've led corporate strategy implementation aligned to Southern Africa group objectives, managed hybrid Agile-Waterfall project portfolios, and overseen PMO governance and benefit realisation at executive level. I've spearheaded in-country digital transformation programmes including robotic process automation, digital channels, and customer analytics — delivering Lesotho's first RPA implementation and near realtime CX insights engine in the Lesotho insurance sector.
Client experience. Client experience is not a recent interest. I've held CX-titled roles for the last seven years — as Product Pricing and Client Experience Manager at Nedbank Lesotho, and currently as Business Manager: Strategy, Projects and Client Experience at Metropolitan Lesotho. The work has spanned client segmentation, insight-led product design for regulated banking products, customer value management propositions, and end-to-end client-centric process reengineering using BPMN methodology.
Regulated sector and policy interface. I've managed business continuity, regulatory compliance, and digital interface with government — including the GoL/Datanet integration. I've managed the business case and launch of a regulated financial entity, the Metropolitan Asset Management Company, with M1.4 billion in assets under management. I understand how regulated sectors actually run, where the friction lives, and how to move them.
The Foundation, and wider work
In 2020, I registered The Learning Mindset Foundation — a development organisation that runs digital skills and leadership programmes for emerging Basotho professionals. The Foundation is now in its sixth year, with an active partnership with AISL since 2025.
I've keynoted at platforms across the continent — ESAAG Namibia (2020), LIA Conference (2019), African Labour Law Conference (2023), Oracle Tech Summit (2023), the National Youth Policy Review (2019), and the CTO Commonwealth Digital Roadshow (2026) — and I write at The Afternoon Papers, where I publish on career navigation, leadership in regulated sectors, and the realities of corporate life nobody tells you about.
I'm a regular contributor to debates on Lesotho's readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital equity, and youth inclusion.
